Each year, through my use of a particular airline linked credit card, I get a couple of free return flights to elsewhere in Europe. This year, as the airline had just launched a route to Malta my partner and I decided to head there for a week.
I had been to Malta before but I was very young (maybe around 8yo I think) so couldn’t really remember too much. Malta is also full of important pre-historic temples and sites and I was keen to return as an adult to explore.
What we didn’t realise when booking the trip is we arrived in the middle of Carnivale. The Maltese take Carnivale very seriously and we got four days of huge incredibly designed floats blasting loud music, people dressed in costume and general madness around Valetta. Thankfully we had booked a hotel just outside the main Valetta centre so it didn’t impact our evening, but it was a great experience to see.
