I was last on a safari in 2011 when I went to Namibia, so when my travel buddy suggested this I thought why not. This time we were off to the Serengeti to catch up with the great migration of wildebeest as they head north to the Masai Mara.
June was an ideal time to visit. Not only because of the migration, but being in the southern hemisphere Tanzania was just coming out of its rain season and as the summer ended temperatures were more reasonable. The lodges wee mainly tented camps, but not like your usual tents – these were tents with fixed beds, and your own shower and toilet within them!
I was considering renting a more powerful zoom lens for this trip but in the end decided to buy a cheaper and slightly less powerful one (for about the same price as I would have paid to rent). It turned out to be a great decision and the images of the animals I managed to get were crisp and sharp.
