Romania

Jun 2026

Romania is a vibrant republic situated at the crossroads of Central and Southeastern Europe. Known for the dramatic Carpathian Mountains, the unique Danube Delta, and rich medieval history, it balances a growing modern economy with stunning natural landscapes and deep cultural traditions.

My travels took me from the capital Bucharest, through Transylvania, ringed by the Carpathian Mountains and up north almost to the Ukraine border to Bocovina and its famous painted churches, then down through Moldavia to the Danube Delta. Once out of the main cities, Romania's rural history is clear. You're probably most familiar with Romania, especially Transylvania, due to its ties to the Dracula story, but with stunning scenery, wildlife around every corner (hopefully not a bear but there are many of those!) there's much more worth exploring!
